I am at school working on an article.

I went to see my prof yesterday to look over my work so far and he says my writing has improved a lot this year. I think it has too.

I was looking at some of my articles from the beginning of the year this morning as I was trying to sort through the piles of paper in my office. As I was reading over old articles, I saw tons of things I would have done differently. I guess that's what this was all about: improving and learning to be critical.

I still have a long way to go but I am happy progress has been made.
I saw an ad on saskjobs.ca for a television reporter in Swift Current. They needed people right away, so I didn’t apply. It was just nice to see opportunities at home.

One of the articles I am writing right now is about the provincial nominee programme and the labour shortage in Saskatchewan. I called the department of Employment and Learning to see if there was anyone who would want to talk to me.

They had me on speaker phone right away and everyone in the office was pitching in trying to answer my questions. It was hard to keep people straight for the interview but it was so great that they were so helpful. It seems when I try to interview people here I often get the royal run around and the “we’ll get back to you in 2 years”.

They also helped me set up an interview for my francophone immigration documentary and Pat Atkinson’s office called my house the other day and agreed to an interview. I am feeling good about how it is coming together so far.

I have felt the desperation of Saskatchewan trying to attract people to the province though. Maybe that’s why everyone is being so nice. Whenever I talk to someone in some official role they are very anxious to know when I intend on moving back to the province.
